Hai Tao is 7 years old. He lives in Funan, about a one and half hour drive away from Fuyang, Anhui. He lives with his mother and brother; his father works in Shanghai. He and his mother are HIV positive and are both on antiretroviral treatment.

He just enrolled in first grade. He was very excited to learn how to write his name, which has many strokes.

Yu Jie is 4 years old. He lives in Funan with his mother, stepfather and brother. Everyone except for his brother is HIV positive. His father passed away from HIV/AIDS in 2006. He is not yet in need of antiretroviral therapy, but is closely monitored by his caretaker, a community health worker, and doctors for any symptoms that would signal the need to initiate treatment.
